Nuns, priests terrorised thousands

A 9 year investigation into Ireland's Roman Catholic-run institutions says priests and nuns terrorised thousands of children in workhouse-style schools for decades - and government inspectors failed to stop the chronic beatings, rapes and humiliation

High Court Justice Sean Ryan today unveiled the 2600-page final report of Ireland's Commission to Inquire Into Child Abuse, which is based on testimony from thousands of former students as well as retired officials from more than 250 church-run institutions.

More than 30,000 children deemed to be petty thieves, truants or from dysfunctional families - a category that often included unmarried mothers - were sent to Ireland's austere network of industrial schools, reformatories, orphanages and hostels from the 1930s until the last church-run facilities shut in the 1990s, Associated Press has reported.

The report found that molestation and rape were "endemic" in boys' facilities, chiefly run by the Christian Brothers order.

Girls supervised by orders of nuns, chiefly the Sisters of Mercy, suffered much less sexual abuse but frequent assaults and humiliation designed to make them feel worthless.

Hypocrites...
Too many years these horrible people have hidden behind the so called goodness of the church - about time they are outed and exposed for the hypocrites they are. Stop preaching and start doing, the world and all in it would be a better place.

In regard to Kevin Watkins' poem, "Black Crows" below.

If there is an all-seeing God, why didn't He/She do something about the childrens plight who were left in the care of these 'Black Crows'?

To any person that has not seen the film "The Magdalene Sisters" I strongly urge you, to visit your local video store and hire it. Another very revealing story based on actual events is: "Song For A Raggie Boy"
These two excellent films are a damming indictment of Catholic run instututions. Here is a poem I wrote on the subject in 2008

Black Crows
Reciting: deliver us from evil,
Then unwittingly, delivering to it,
Gifts to predatory darkness.
black crows descending,
Proselytising, evangelising,
Genuflecting black crows,
Praying for and preying on...
Converging upon fertile soil.
Sowing seeds of fear and guilt:
Innocents, lost in nothingness...
Blood drenched Eucharist...
Heavenly bliss promised...
Eternal damnation threatened...
Be consumed, in searing heat...
Proselytising, evangelising,
Manipulative black crows
Constrain collective thought,
Till chains strain and break...
Fetterd minds finally speak,
Then, black crows retreat.
