PERTH Thunder is on a mission to prove themselves in men’s senior ice hockey this season to become the first WA team in the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL).

The team has applied for a provisional licence to play in the league and will compete against AIHL teams this season to prove they are up to the competition’s standards.

Club director Ric Del Basso said there was a 95 per cent chance Perth Thunder would be part of the league next season.

The team, which trains in Malaga but hosts games at the Cockburn Ice Arena, has started well with two wins and two loses against Adelaide and Melbourne this season.

Del Basso said Perth Thunder comprised mostly Perth players, including a group from the western suburbs, as well as four imports from Canada (3) and Sweden (1). More details at www.perththunder. com. au.
