YOUNG swim star Brianna Throssell looms as a great hope for the City of Perth Swimming Club at the 2010 State Open Championships at Challenge Stadium on Wednesday.
The 13-year-old will compete after winning two gold, three silver and two bronze medals in Queensland last week.
“They were very quick, so I went into it not expecting much and was shocked to do so well,” she said.
Brianna has trained at Beatty Park since July, when she transferred from Kalamunda Districts to the City of Perth Swimming Club to give her the opportunity to compete against more adults to improve her times.
She now hopes to improve her 2009 state age record of 56.97 in the 100m freestyle.
“I can’t really do breaststroke, but am giving it a shot, as I haven’t done it for a while,” Brianna said.
The State Open is a qualifier for the national championships in March.
