MIDVALE’S Mineworks Group managing director John Gallop was named among WA’s top business leaders at last week’s 2011 40under40 Awards.
The awards, held at Sir James Mitchell Park in South Perth, recognised 40 of Western Australia’s brightest young entrepreneurs.
Mr Gallop developed Mineworks Group in 2001, with a view to supporting mining clients with high quality subcontract mechanical services.
He operated out of a field service truck in the Pilbara spending long hours working away from home to build a reputation of integrity and hard work. In 2005, the employment process began to expand and diversify the business’ skills base and riding on the mining boom, the business grew quickly to adapt to client needs.
The economic downturn of 2009 hit the company hard and Mr Gallop said debt from over capitalising the previous year saw a significant drop in workload, and as a result he had a surplus of newly refurbished mining equipment.
“The financial position of Mineworks Group in 2010 is a complete turnaround,” he said.
The business increased revenue and registered a significant profit from the end of 2009.
Mr Gallop said he felt a strong sense of achievement for his role in the turnaround.
